I think both pictures would look better with a tighter crop on the flowers. A macro shot of the thistles would be neat.

Ron, not to nitpick, but that top one is defiantly not nettles. As far as I can tell it's one of the Eupatoriums (Joe-pye-weed), probably Spotted (Eutrochium maculatum).

As for C&C, if you want it, I like the Joe-pye-weed on the dark background. Nice use of DoF.

The thistle could use a little more DoF. I might crop it a hair on the left, just to keep the in focus parts of the other plant out of the frame, they're distracting to me. I really like the OOF parts in this one, gives a good indication what the rest of the plant looks like.
