Wedding low light

Also, use two camera bodies. For ceremony you can use a long zoom and keep your 50mm on, for artsy closer up shots of guests or whatnot. That 50mm is perfect for shots of the rings on the hands, just make sure you get the focus right.

Keep in mind that you have IS on the 70-200 that should be good for 3 stops. So in theory, in any given situation, so in a practical sense in terms of shutter speeds, that should be equivalent to it being faster glass than your 50mm f/1.4 ( I know the 50mm should only be shot at a 1/50th of a second already. ) but it basically is equivalent to having a 70-200 thats two stops faster than the 50mm's f/1.8

dude, just go before the ceremony and talk to the church people. The priest will tell you what's allowed and what's not. the one I went to yesterday had no issue with antyihng. Matter of fact I was even on podium, while they were exchanging rings, I was over his shoulder leaning on it using flash. It all depends from church to church. some will frown upon it and other wont' even give a crap.

+1 to what mohaimenK said!

I haven't photographed any weddings yet, but I work a couple times a month for a friend who owns a wedding videography service. I've have had the chance to "shoot" a good handful of weddings so far with the video camera. In addition to what Mo said, make sure it's the actual pastor of the church you talk to, and don't be afraid to be specific! At my last wedding, the "wedding coordinator" met with me before the ceremony and said that under NO circumstances was I to go beyond the back pew, and I had to STAY put the whole time.

I listened to her, and missed a lot of footage from better angles, because I didn't know that the pastor actually didn't mind movement, and wouldn't have minded me standing up front like I usually do for the the procession.

oh and oen thing, whatever you learned here in this forum, you'll forget 99% of it when you're there. LOL Trust me, when you're new at it, u'll be too busy jumping up and down trying to figure out what to do. but eventually it will be calm for you

You could've faked that shot the day before and then presented it to them saying it was on their wedding :p
