Wedding Photo from this Weekend...Comments and Critiques?

Editing in Lightroom 6.5.1 only
Camera: Nikon D7100
Lens: Nikkor DX 35mm f/1.8
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/200sec
Lighting: Natural light on Bride&Groom. Two speed lights on the ground about 4 feet behind the Bride&Groom at a 45 degree angle. One with blue gel and the other with a green gel.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions, critiques?

I like it!

This is me being nitpicky.

I'm not a fan of the crop at their shins... I'd much rather see a full length shot on this one, the back of his jacket at the shoulder and backside get completely lost in the dark background, the whole photo seems to be tilted about a quarter of a degree to the left, the couple is off center just enough to feel accidental, and I don't think I'm a fan of the blue/green algae like feel of the gelled speedlights, if it were me I would have shot it without the gels.

you took a risk shooting so narrow DOF, looks like the flowers are the focal point, but luckily you don't need to see detail in the faces in this sorta shot.

The cropped shot was because the speed lights were set behind the Bride&Groom, while you could not see the lights them self, you could see where the light was sourced from. It gave an uneven look to the light and felt off.

As for the colors, that was a choice from the Bride&Groom to get a more creative/unique shot.

Did you only grab the one shot in landscape orientation? I would think that if you were to have shot this in portrait orientation you may have still been able to get the bridge, include the subject's full length, and be able to crop out the speedlights.

I'm only guessing though, since I wasn't there.

Yes, we got multiple shots; though, the speed lights where on the ground directly behind the Bride/Groom and not on the edges of the bridge...so that wouldn't work. I can post a few others later tonight when I get home to show examples.

Fair enough.

I wish I didn't have to learn things the hard way from each and every shoot, but the reality is I do.

And it makes me better.

And the mistakes I make on the subsequent shoots seem less and less obtrusive.

But I still make some.

Every. Single. Shoot.

I could not agree more, every shoot I do I get better and better...making fewer and fewer mistakes. But, it's how we all learn. It's also why I post here and welcome all advise and feedback, good or bad. I can't learn and grow without others helping to point out what can make my work BETTER instead of just "good job"...

Nice shot, clear, properly exposed, very natural interaction.

I'm not a big fan of symmetrical/centered composition but that's just me. The framing is what I call "nervous framing", where it's not wide enough to make a dramatic statement or close enough to maintain focus. The lighting is kind of flat. The light colors don't go well with the composition, key light, and pose.
