Hi all,
I just started DSLR photography earlier this year purchasing a Canon t3i as my sister asked me to shoot photos at her wedding. Wanted to share the results with others for tips. To me, the shots look off for some reason, maybe flat but I could be wrong. I used a Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 lens for these.

Thanks

(PS: Sorry if this is a double post. I thought I posted this earlier but can't find the thread)

You'll get much better response by embedding 2-4 images directly in the thread since many members aren't keen to click on links. I had a quick look (For some reason, Photobucket kills my browser) at your album and it looks to me like very typical images shot on a clear day with the sun high in the sky. This is NOT a good time for photography, but since it's a wedding you're not likely to get them to say their vows at 7.00am, so.. you gotta work with it. What almost every one of those shots needed was more light. Yes, on a bright, sunny day, you need even more light. What that will do is reduce the dynamic range (the range between highlight and shadow) and allow you to control where the shadows are, and how deep/dark they are. The ideal situation here would have been to have an assistant with a remote speedlight that you could position wherever you want need. I suspect that probably wasn't an option for you though.

What he said.

The images are not too bad (I only looked quickly at the thumbnails) in terms of composition and such. Room to improve for sure. As said, the time of day was against you. You had a lot of shadows, some falling in the wrong place. They come off overall as really nice snapshots. Try finding some shade to shoot in, or at a different time of the day to get a more interesting light.

I wouldnt qualify them as flat. I consider an image flat when there are little to no shadows giving no dimension in the image...hence, flat.

If you want more detailed CC, select 2-3 of them and post them up for people to see
