For this week’s challenge, let’s work on our dof skills. Photograph your subject so that it is fully in focus with background out of focus. Challenge yourself using three dimensional subjects and busy backgrounds. Use lighting to create interesting bokeh. Backgrounds can be as out of focus as you like.

As always, new photos only for the weekly challenge. Get up and shoot!

Flowers oblige as subjects because beside being pretty, they sit still and rarely argue. Tracked down my Helios 44 - 2 , added a 10mm tube and....

the Helios is a unique bokeh machine and is creamy soft wide open

stop down a couple of clicks and things get sharper

and a stop or so more, but keeping the oof to a max by sneaking up just until the petal tips are sharp

Unintentionally, I'm keeping with the flower theme. These were hand held, all at 102mm on a 70-200, all at 1/200 (should've gone slower to hold down ISO), auto ISO. Tried to hold the same composition and then cropped in to each photo as well.
    f/2.8 & ISO 640

    f/4 & ISO 1250

    f/7.1 & ISO 4000

In the un-cropped photo I preferred f/4 or f/7.1, in the cropped versions I definitely preferred f/2.8

Fuzzy background caused by panning a moving subject.
Kodak Pony 828, F16 for forgiving DOF, 1/100 sec.

I live walking distance from Arlington and have ID to get on the post that abuts it but that did not help today as the cemetery is still effectively closed. Something I did not realize.

So these Memorial Day shots were taken through the fence making what I envisioned more difficult.
