What's new

What a difference a couple months makes...

I focus is better in #2 but I prefer the colors in #1. Nothing a WB adjustment can't fix. Good Job!

I adjusted the wb..Does it look better??

not giving you crap, it's just a reaction. The color and angle is better on the first one. They're pretty similar pictures, if you had said these were taken two days from eachother, nobody would have doubted you. Unless you seriously buckle down in some way to achieve a certain look or goal in your photography, 6 months isn't too long in the grand scheme of things.

For most people, I would say about a year, and if you don't see improvement over two years, than you're not trying hard enough.

For example, In my situation, i've got a 5 year goal. Where if i'm not where I want to be in my Photography by 2018, than I need to seriously think about what I'm doing with myself.

I love looking back and seeing how far I have come. It makes me so very proud of myself, not that I'm done learning or anywhere near being a PRO but I've traveled miles from where I started.

haha i was pretty sure i had seen that pier before! i didnt realize you took the first picture!!
Lol! At least you can actually "see" the pier in the new one. The first pier is almost just black! All the details are lost in the sky and ocean! Lol!

thats mostly because of it being in black and white i think... but either way they both look really good!! and to think your getting these results with a p&s! i cant get anything like this with my camera!! though i also dont shoot scenery... ANyway good shots!

I'm nowhere near having a style since I'm so new, but I sure as hell should be making some progress after 4 months. Shooting in manual mode is a huge accomplishment in itself and I'm damn proud of that!! I'm not basing my improvement on just this one picture...I've taken some pretty good pictures recently that I am proud of and I could not have taken six months ago.

I couldn't do a hobby that it would take me a year to see any type of improvement..

Here's the pictures I'm referring to...I'm not saying I'm a professional or anywhere near that..All I'm saying is it is possible to make some improvement in four months.

Love this one!

Remember kids... even if the pictures still look "slightly" better, you're still improving with digesting more knowledge alone.

???? Its a black and white photo.....

I honestly don't see much of a difference btw the pics, other than the focus and composition is better in #2. I just think they both are really great pics!

I was comparing two pictures I took of my kids. One was taken on in November and the other taken last weekend.. I see an improvement. I have a long way to go, but it's nice to see I'm making a bit of progress!!

Here's the one taken in November..

Thank you! Where I see the biggest difference is the contrast and detail. In the first one you can't make it the clouds to well you can't really tell where the clouds start and end, the ocean doesn't have too mcuh detail and the pier posts aren't visible at all. I find #2 to be much clearer.

I spend a lot of time looking over my photos day by day, so much it's just much more blatent to me :)

The second picture is focused better and I like the exposure. I also like the brighter lighting.

Yes, just because it's a black and white photo doesn't mean that the blacks have to be crushed. There can also be shades of grey to give the darker tones depth.
