What a Model

How do you say in American, "you nailed it" :) :) Outstanding colours and details Dave, very impressive shot and love that background. Seen a lot of shots of these from up your way and off the top of my head, the best I've seen. Amazing lighting for it.

All the best David, congrats on this one !!

Thanks Danny, glad you like it. They are pesky birds but I enjoy having them around and they don't chase off other birds but do eat must of the bird feed rather quickly.

What a beautiful image - great details and colors and BG.
Thanks Fotureblog.

Our grackles have mastered clinging to the pole and grabbing my son's birdfeeder, then tipping it out onto the ground. The finches absolutely hate that. But they are very cool looking, and have a ton of personality. It's a beautiful shot! I actually like really nice pictures of the "common" birds like grackles, starlings, sparrows.

Is the Sigma fairly easy to carry around and handhold? I can handhold my Canon at 250 at pretty low speeds fairly successfully. I'm not in tripod territory most of the time as I'm a walkabout-er, don't like to sit still, and generally have two small critters with me. But I covet some of the shots you guys get at 500mm!

Thanks Civchic. Yes the sigma is easy to carry around. I use a Black Rapid Sling strap so no weight around the neck and carry it by the tripod mount collar when walking around and If I recall the lens weight is a little over 4LBS. I have hand held it down 1/60th @ 500mm but that's with IS on and no problems at all.

Great to know! I use an Optech sling strap, so similar setup. 4lbs is totally manageable. I would likely still use the 55-250 with the kids hiking as I already tend to bonk one of them in the head on occasion but the Sigma would sure be nice for my walks alone, when I'm specifically looking for birds.

I'm also definitely going to rent it when I go to Costa Rica in November. I think I will kick myself if I don't.
