What are your thoughts on this photo guys?

The sky looks all blown out, but it was actually that colour on the day, up above the clouds was blue(ish).

Seems a bit flat to me. Play some more with the channel mixers.

This image is extremely mid-tone rich; that is: It has an almost complete abscence of blacks and whites, but is composed of tones of grey. It rather looks to me as if it were produced by simply moving the saturation slider all the way to the left. As suggested, try some channel adjustments, try the contrast adjustment, and perhaps read up a little on monochrome conversions. There are LOTS of tips and techniques on-line.

Right I have upped the contrast more, and played around with the channel mixers. It does look better, but I dunno.

Ya, I like the color version also, but I'd crop it closer (shirt graphic is distracting, imo).

Personally I would have used the darker version and just lightened up the eyes. just making the whole image more contrasty doesn't help the eyes, it just washed out the face.

By lightening up the whole image has made it more contrasty.

I personally don't see anything wrong with an image thats made up of all midtones. It just conveys a certain feeling. It seems more tranquil and calm to me than an image with a lot of contrast.

If you are trying for a calm and peaceful kind of feeling I think that its nice.
