what happened?!? please help

i was shooting @ a local venue tonight, just to get some practice shots of bands. some of them came out with the subject visible, but the background completely black. in these pictures, when i view them on my pc, the dark areas are filled with different colors of pixels in random spots.

heres the weird part -

when i upload on photobucket, or open in photoshop, they're no longer visible!

????

also, has anyone else found it very hard to shoot bands with a 50mm? i started shooting with that, then put my kit lens back on for its wider angle

That's noise and/or hot pixels.

I'm suprised that Photbucket would do it, but with Photoshop it's probably the default noise reduction setting taking care of it (Does PS do that? ...I know Lightroom does).

so what is the actual problem? there were a lot of them on multiple pictures. is there something wrong with my camera??

Something might be wrong with your memory card.

Try a different memory card and see if it still does it.

anywhere from 400-1600,

the weird thing is, im not seeing it today! they were only visible when i opened them on my computer via windows viewer, but today the pictures are completely clear.


also, when i look through my viewfinder at a light, i see a smudge near the top half of the screen, but from what i can tell its not effecting my pictures at all. is there anything i can do to get rid of this? its quite annoying

My guess would be that it is just noise due to high ISO, and that the default settings on whatever software you're using are taking care of it for you. Lightroom does this - while the picture is loading you can see the noise, but once it's loaded and all the defaults kick in the noise is gone.

Anything you can see in the viewfinder will not show in the pictures (it's either on the mirror, or the focusing screen), only dirt/dust on the sensor will show - and you won't be able to see that through the viewfinder.

You could carefully clean the mirror, but for me the dust is usually on the focusing screen. There's not much you can do about that other than blowing it off. I wouldn't use any kind of solvent, it might react with the focusing screen and ruin it.

In that case, don't try - lol!

Get yourself some kind of blower - there are a ton out there, don't use compressed air.
Hold your camera front facing down (with lens removed, of course) and give it a couple shots of air. That should get rid of a lot of the dust.

i dont really know what you mean. when you said blower the first thing that came to mind was compressed air lol.

should i just ignore it? i mean it just looks like a little smudge when im looking into a light
