What's happened to Minolta? They pulled out of the P&S market a few years ago and said they'd concentrate on DSLR's. After the London trip I've got a hankering for one so went on eBay to find hardly 5D's or 7D's. I appreciate that they were released a while ago (I've not had any interest in new cameras since around the time the 5D was launched), but when I looked on photography shops online I couldn't find any Minolta DSLR's? What happened?
Just found this. http://www.konicaminolta.co.uk/more...g/withdrawal-from-photo-imaging-business.html I knew I was out of step with what was new but... bloody hell. So, what are these Sony cameras like?
Long story short...Sony bought the photography part of Konica-Minolta. The first Sony DSLR (A100 or something like that) was basically all designed while they were still Minolta. They kept the compatibility for Minolta lenses, which is good for Minolta users. Hopefully they continue that. As a guess, I'd think that Sony holds the same market share as Minolta did previously. That being said...Sony has deep pockets and they may dump a lot of money into R&D. Sony also makes a lot of digital camera sensors. Of note is that they make the sensors for Nikon DSLR cameras.
Three of Minolta's meters were resurrected by Kenko: link. The Spotmeter F doesn't seem to have survived. Poor thing. Best, Helen
If you are after a new body the A700 will have £100 cashback on body and £150 cashback if bought with any sony lens. Can't remember when that starts but I got an email at work today about the offers
