New toy arrived this morning: A Plustek OpticFilm 8200i film/slide scanner. Just firing it up and playing with it now. I've got thousands of slides to go through, dating from the '50s to the early '80s.

No, those were freebies from the neighbors. They didn't come in the box, they just HAD to check it out. Everything I bring in to the house has to get a Cat Scan.

I hooked it up right after making the vid. It just took that long to upload it to YoozTubes. I'm still fiddling with all the sliders and buttons and options.

The vast majority of the slides I have are 'snapshot' grade and if I scan them, they'll be at the lowest / fastest resolution this thing can do. I see no reason to spend months digitizing family reunion images just for emailing JPEGs.

OTOH, I have probably 300-400 'keepers' that will be scanned at the highest rez possible, then saved as TIFs.

But so far, I haven't figured out the SilverFast software. I can get the image up, but it looks like doggy doo-doo, and I can't get it look any better than a faded polaroid that's been Instragrammed by a 1-year-old. Everything's purple or red.

The software comes with a "Workflow Pilot", but I just can't figure it out. It's supposed to (I assume) go through all the steps, one by one, in the 'proper' order. But I can't get anything good to come from it. So I'm just doing it the 'old-fashioned' way... picking and choosing the steps each image needs.
