What is focal point?

it could be the center or it could be another point depending on what focus method you use. Your camera has focus points set up which you can choose between. Your manual will explain this some more.

"single focus point" is this a setting on my camera? I have heard of dynamic focus point-is this the same or different?

I'm not an expert or even an advanced amateur but it sounds to me like someone REALLY needs to read the manual that came with his camera!

Along with a dictionary, single means one, dynamic is related to motion. So to answer the question they are different.
