Some of the lenses work only under water, and some will do both. I use my Nikonos II w/35mm lens in rainstorms, snow, etc..., and it does a good job. I've never had the opportunity to take it underwater, although it will be going to the pool to photograph my daughter when she's old enough to get out of the 1' deep section.
