what mode do you shoot in?

Just curious what everyone's favorite mode to shoot in is? I prefer manual or Av...how about you?

I shoot in whatever mode fits the conditions.

I tend to use AV or program on Canons, manual in the studio, I tend to only use TV for sports. Depends what I'm shooting really.

I shoot in manual unless the two following conditions are met...variable lighting AND time constraints. If the lighting is not variable, I shoot in manual. If I'm not in a hurry (fast or busy situations) I shoot in manual. It's only when both of those things line up, that I switch into Av.

I can honestly say that I have shot in M,A,S,P,Av,Tv,A-Dep,Running Man,Nightime Moon+Stars+Woman Icon mode, Pretty Flower Mode, Mountains Mode, Martini Glass and Streamer Mode, Fireworks Mode, Motion Picture Projector Mode, and a bunch of other MODES...at one time or another....heck I have even shot in that Lemon Slice + Tequila Bottle mode...no, wait...that's not what that mode was...hmmm...oh yeah, yeah, it was the Beer Bottle & Corn Chip mode!!!

One mode is "Damn, this is fun!", the other is "Damn, this sucks!"

I would say Av is my default...I tend to decide on the depth of field for the shot before worrying about shutter speed. It's only if I'm really not getting what I want that I would switch to M.

Derrel, I thought you shot in a la mode to go with those brownies that you like to show us pictures of.

Manual unless it's daylight with constantly moving cloud cover or if it's early morning or evening (and thus sun rise or sunset causing rapid light changes). In those cases I shoot in Av.

If I just have my camera around my neck shooting random snapshots, I keep it on Av in case i see something pop up interesting out of nowhere, but if I have any time to plan and frame my shot, I switch to manual. Also when just randomly shooting, I tend to leave the camera on ISO 1600, so there's almost no chance my pictures end up blurry.

Martini mode? My camera doesn't have a martini mode. Why don't I have a martini mode?! I want one of these.

Of course, it goes without saying that it wouldn't be worthwhile to have martini mode unless it was used to photograph martinis. AND it'd be a tragic waste not to DRINK the martinis after we're done shooting them. Incidentally I prefer vodka martinis with three (because it's bad luck to have an even number of olives and one is simply not enough) blue-cheese-stuffed olives. Extra cold please.

I remember the time a guy who was drinking a jack daniels and diet coke tried to tell me that a dry gin martini was a 'girly drink'.

Turned and told him "talk to me when you can drink your liquor without the DIET coke to help you out."

JD and DIET Coke??? MAN, what a pansy! My Panasonic 10x zoom P&S with the Mega-OS system is the camera with so many dad-gum modes that I don't even know what the heck all of them ARE!!!!!
