What technique do you use to archive?

main folder is subject, such as trips, models, family, weddings, etc.then year - month - datealso, I have a bak folder where I keep zipped files of original unprocessed photos.

With lightroom, you can change the location of your folders. So for example, I am removing Barb's wedding photos and putting them permanently on the USB archive hard drive. Before I delete her folder, I right click on the mac-hd folder for barb's wedding photos and change the location the USB-hd. Then I delete the photos from the mac-hd, and all of my settings, edits, crops, light adjustments, etc. now correspond with the new folder. It's a nice feature that I didn't realize was possible until recently, and might be helpful as you archive photos to backup hard drives in the future.
