If you've never heard of brassai before, look him up now! Especially if you love b&w photography as his shots are amazing and he's widely regarded as one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. What I don't understand is that all his posters seem to be unavailable or out of stock everywhere, strange for a photographer like him. Shots like pont neuf and brouillard, avenue de l'observatoire. Do any of you know why this is? Any input would be great, thanks!

Perhaps it is the passing of time, and the influx of all the "newer" images created within the past 20 years. Times change. Tastes change. Culture changes. The world that Brassai chronicled is long, long, long DEAD and GONE. And so are almost all of the people who were alive in his photos...many of those people died sixty to forty years ago, as old people. THheir grandchildren and great grandchildren and their great-great grandchildren have absolutely ZERO interest in the world of ANY photographer who worked in the World War I to WW II era...

Commercially printed and widely sold posters reflect POPULAR taste and popular culture and recognize what people are seeing, talking about, and thinking about. Walk into a store, and OLD, cliche, "safe" impressionist paintings are still available as posters, since the images are accessible, easily understood, and "safe". But posters in the dada, fauvist, or other experimental" schools of art are not very common. Instead, we see LOADS of posters with glib, pop-art sayings, curse words, and pop music and TV and movie "stars"...posters where the hookers wore real silk stockings and fur-trimmed coats and smoked cigarettes out of glass or metal cigarette holders are decidely...NOT within the realm of modern, 21st century culture....Brassai's world is long, long, long since DEAD and GONE. And his audience is aged, or...dead...litle demand for his stuff as posters. Simple.

Now we have posters of Justin Bieber, Lady GaGa, and things that a modern audience wants to buy--as a "poster",as a low-cost poster to be put up on walls in apartments, dorms, and other places..places where people who watch TV and listen to iPods live. Not trying to put your like of Brassai down (I loved his work as a boy, 30+ years ago!). We're more interested in Pippa Middleton here in the USA than we are in say, Margaret Thatcher or Princess Ann...and Victoria Beckham....cough,cough...still skinny, still hot...but Brigette Bardot--gone..faded...sad...
