I prefer the 2nd one, better balance.

great shot.. i like the second one but i still think i would move the bird over to the left a little bit or crop off some of the left side of the photo.. you have lots of empty space on one side and next to none on the other side.

Thanks for the replies guys I'm also liking the full body more than the crop... @dannylightning please correct me if im wrong as I have said I am still very much a newb and don't know what I'm doing lol... But I was following the rules of thirds for my composition wouldn't it mean that the bird is looking into the negative space, if I crop in or move the bird left would it then not become more of portrait and be compositionly incorrect then.. Thanks awaiting reply

Yes you want to use the rule of thirds but there is too much empty nothingness on one side of the photo. If the screen was split up so there was three lines going from top to bottom and the 2nd line was in the center. I would place the center of his body right in the center of the line on the right side of the screen, you will still have more space on one side than the other but the photo won't look as empty on one side. Hope that makes sense. Look at how others have positioned the birds in their photos

That's a great shot and with the bird framed in the shot a little differently it would make it even better.

Your welcome. You have the right idea you just placed it a little too far over. It use to take me a while to find just the right crop when I first started, it would take me several tries to get one that I liked. Now I usually like my crop on the first try. It's just something you got to play with till you get the hang of it.

First one looks like a really cool piece of marketing.
Second one looks like a really cool picture.

Carlos, Lovely shot/s.
I think the first is superior by a mile.
The first is all graceful neckline and powerful eye with no distractions.
The second is a bit discordant to the point where the bird's back an barely looks connected to its neck and face. Full bird would have been better than this crop.
I know it gets hard to critique your own work at times but you'll know yourself deep down which you prefer.
I reckon you should not look at the shots for a couple of days then look at each and make a decision based on your instinct.
Then go with the first one anyway.

I like the next to the last best.

same here. i think number 2 and 3 both work but i would choose number 3... its head is centered but its body is off to the right side of the photo.. there still appears to be more space on the side he is looking toward than there is to its back..

Ok Danny I see where you getting with the different composition and fully understand your point but I have been thinking now that yes thats all good but I'm thinking now is using a print as a piece of art on the wall if you know what I mean and in that I'm thinking the crop with lots of negative space would therefore look much more arty. If you understand what I mean.
