I submitted a picture to our on campus literary magazine last year and got it published. I'm going to submit a few this year and I can't really decide which one(s) to submit. So, I figured I would post a couple and see what other people thought.

This is the one that got published (I think the one that actually got published was cropped a little more on the left):

So here are the contestants:
1. Dragonfly

2. A New Year

4. Edited the cloud out on the left. I can't decide which I like more.

6. (Untitled as of now)
These pics are off of Facebook- the actual picture is a bit lighter.

7. Withering Away
The point of this picture is that the flower is on the verge of dying, hence why it's not colorful. I'm afraid my audience might not get that.

I also have high hopes of a picture next Saturday. If that pic turns out well it may be in the running as well.

So, what are your top 3 pics and why?

1# I prefer this one instead of the second because it's possible to imagine the "transformation" of it. I like it!

3# Love the colors and the symmetry (and I like that little cloud that you cut off on the next)

5# Don't blame. I love to see simplicity and symmetry in the photos, and I think it works pretty well in this one. My favorite.

Good luck ;)

IMHO the b/w that you posted first is in whole other leageue from the rest. 1&2 are good snapshots of fireworks, but not much else. 3&4 are over processed. 6 is at least 3 stops underexposed. 5&7 are really just snap shots as well. All in all I would say 5 is the only one that shows any planning in the execution. Sorry to be harsh, but they just don't do a lot for me, especially when you have the first one as a measuring stick.

I agree. #1 is a VERY nice shot. It completely blows the others away. I wouldn't even guess that the same photographer took the first one.

Don't worry about sounding harsh- everyone likes different things for different reasons. I appreciate the feedback, especially since your comments bring up valid points. I'm still fairly new to photography and am learning a lot.

I guess I got lucky on the shot I got published!
