Who has big weekend plans?

I'm hoping a fellow photography enthusiast friend will be able to head out to scope some spots this weekend, but who knows. My hubby has a 96 this weekend.. (4 day weekend) that started yesterday around 4pm so lots of down time with the family is in store for us! Oh, and hitting up Toys R Us with some birthday gift cards for little man.

"I'll be interpreting history"

What does this mean exactly? Are you a historian? I find that as a kid, I hated history classes. As I get older, history is much more fascinating to me and I wish to expand my knowledge. Civil War and other history.

Basically, it means I can relate to visitors how manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and economic history of the times effected the blacksmith shop.

My big tadoo for the weekend:

Every year, the local Scouts install US flags at the local cemetery.... one for every veteran buried there. A name is also placed on each pole. The Scouts have done this for years.... put up the flags, stand guard 24 hours a day until Monday afternoon, then take them down, have them cleaned and store them until next year. In the meantime, they raise funds to purchase replacement and additional flags for next year, as well as install the pole receivers in the ground.



To show our appreciation for their efforts, a bunch of us have them in for a free breakfast. So tomorrow morning I'll be making a truck-load of scrambled eggs.

Our troop used to participate in this. I miss doing that...especially now, since my dad's grave is AT our local veteran's cemetery. Last Memorial Day, I went out and took pictures; in fact, I just posted a picture of my dad's gravesite with the flag in front of it on my FB page for the weekend.

I am *hoping* to go out on a birding adventure with a guy who owns a boat and says he knows a really great birding spot, an island in the middle of a nearby river. Black-crowned night herons and egrets (neither of which I have photos of yet), eagles with babies (probably fledged by now, though), osprey, ducks, GBHs...

I've been really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, last night, I started feeling like I was coming down with something. Today wasn't any better, but it's not yet so bad that I can't still go out and have a decent time. I'm determined to at least get to do this outing, even if I'm sick the rest of the weekend. But I HOPE I wake up tomorrow and feel better...hate to waste 3-day weekends on being sick!
Monday--not sure. Been trying to get my family to make a plan, since I know my mom will want some time with us, but getting MY siblings to make any decisions is like trying to herd cats.

If you're going to Biltmore, they don't allow photography inside. Asheville is beautiful, though. Head out the Blue Ridge Parkway

Yesterday was my last day at work. The gang threw a little going away shindig at a friend's tiki bar. Big fun was had by all.

Today I spent the day packing my truck, as I leave Portland tomorrow morning. I'll be relocating to St. Augustine, Florida after a seven week photo gig in Pennsylvania, which starts on June 20th.

Between 6:00am tomorrow and June 20, I'm going to be driving across the country with my 5D on the passenger seat. I've got three and a half weeks of nothing but taking pictures. I've got some places already picked out to shoot (Devil's Tower, Crazy Horse Memorial, St. Louis Arch, etc), but I plan on spending a good deal of time off of the freeways. It'll add to the drive time, but it'll help me find the kinds of places and things I want to shoot.

I can't wait...

The pint was Sierra Nevada Torpedo, and the meat was in the anchovies. ;-) Well, the duck fat fries also kinda filled that void.

Walked by it, and checked it out. Looked nice inside but I can't think of the name off the top of my head. You mean to the right of DuckFat?
