I like the lighting and colours of the first, but the frame is sadly rather tight - the second has a much better frame but the light (or just the horses face) seems less interesting than in the first.
Agreed, poor execution on my part. I had my 80-400 as I was out looking for birds. I should have asked them to stop so I could back up and get more frame around the first one. Here is one shot of her whole head, I just didn't like the angle as much. The owner told me that she is camera shy so I didn't want to bother her too much.
And I think #2 looks better in B&W, not that she had any color anyways lol
