What are the pros/cons of editing digital photographs on a wide format display that has a ratio of 21:9, for example? How would color calibrating be affected?

21:9 would leave a lot of unused space around the typical digital photograph.
The unused space could be used to place editing work pallets.

Color calibration will depend on the display type, the color accurate viewing angles of the display, and the hardware/software used to do the calibration.

I find having a second display works best for me.
A main display for the image I am editing and the second display for editing work pallets and tool option bars.
