Wow this had a cool soft, cozy feel to it. I really like it. You should try and get this accepted as a stock photo of this bird.

Looks very good for a shot through glass. GOOD focus placement, right on the eye. Ultra-clean background. Nothing too exciting lighting-wise, but still, a very satisfying, frame-filling "portrait" of a bird. Now, normally, I utterly loathe the use of the word "portrait" in the typical animal or bird or in sect post title, but in this one instance, it genuinely does appear to be a 'portrait", as opposed to just a picture OF a living animal or bird.

Thanks!

Nice, was that through a window or were you outside?

I had the tripod set up inside, and the feeder was suction-cupped on the outside of a double-pane window that I cleaned VERY well before shooting. :)

In case anyone's interested in buying one, here's a link to the feeder. I have the #3.

Thanks! The background (grass in our yard) was easily 50ft behind the subject, whereas the camera was about 6ft from the subject. Yeah, the lighting wasn't great, but it was an overcast day, so I did what I could.

To get this sharp a photo of a twitchy little 4-inch high bird at 300mm and 1/50th second, he was posing for me, no doubt. He was so still, you can even see the window frame in his eye. This is definitely a portrait. :D

Great shot Rafterman. Amazing colors that some birds have.Nature is just awsome.

Thanks! Nature is indeed awesome. It never ceases to amaze me with its beauty. I've also been blown away by the male Goldfinches in their brilliant yellow breeding plumage. Hopefully I'll catch one of them at the window this weekend.
