Winter Sunrise

Welcome to the Forum. These are not bad and since you posted here, I am assuming you are looking for C&C. In the first one you have the virtual horizon, which in this case is the shoreline of the lake, right in the middle of the image. I would have moved it down so that the upper two-thirds of the image is all sky. In the second one, the "crooked" tree bothers me a bit, but I suspect that is the way it was. The bench is a bit of a distraction, at least for me, because as I see it, your subject is really the tree in silhouette.

I disagree with western guy. For the first, yes the virtual horizon is almost dead center, but because of the "stuff" in the foreground, I kind of like the composition here. Both images have awesome color. The tree does make me a little weary, but I like the bench as part of the scene in the second. I think it adds to, rather than detracts from, the tree. It adds a secondary subject to the photo and that makes me want to look longer, which is a good thing.

Thanks for the comments, folks! Keep 'em coming!

On the first pic - it was shot at 10mm, which I just got recently. I was a little worried about what distortion I might end up with if I put the "horizon" lower. Still learning to use the lens, really. But to be honest, I'm generally happy with how it ended up. Perhaps one bigger object in the foreground would've made it better and more interesting.

As for the second photo - my idea was to convey a sense of winter loneliness, through both the dead, leafless tree and the empty bench. Perhaps having both in there has proven to be too distracting?
