Wireless remote or Cable Release

I have the Rebel XTi and want to do some bulb exposure shots, will the wireless remote allow me to do this, or do I need a cable release? I don't want to hold the button for 30 minutes.

you could do it with the remote. Just set the camera to bulb and press the button on the remote and release. After 30 minutes come back and press the button again.

I would not do 30 min exposures; better to do many 30 second exposures and merge them in post.
