Wireless remote

I bout a targus universal wireless shutter release remote. I have a canon rebel T3. I cant seem to figure out how to link the two together. Can anyone tell me how?

I have a T2i, so I'm being a little sketchy on the details here. Assuming the thing you got is compatible, get into the camera's set up screen and change the shutter mode to 2 sec timer and remote. While the camera is awake, point the remote at the camera and press the button. The camera should focus and release the shutter. If that does not work, turn the AF switch on your lens to Off, and try again. The camera will not take a photo if AF is On and it cannot achieve focus.

^^This and you will most likely have to be pointing it at the infrared sensor that is on the front of the camer by the right hand fingers.
