Wisconsin's North Woods Shoot - part 3

A few more from the north woods:

First: Just HAD to do one of these B&W with colored subject . This can really bring out a subject that is buried in the clutter.

Second: Been trying to get some shots of algea patches on tree trunks. This one was on a dead branch. Kind of like the form and shape of the patch and the colors of the tree - I like the overall texture. Color saturation was boosted on this one. f16 was used to get everything in focus (background was far enough away to stay blurred out). Wondering if I should have tried to contrast the tree branch with the background more (maybe move back a ways to get more background? More lighting?). Little hard here since what I really want is the subject (patch) AND the tree being the focal point of the image... Probably can't get away with that.

Third: I have seen shots like this before and liked them. The mushroom overfills the screen and so looks much bigger than life. The ridges counter the smooth background and stem. Detail in the shroom comes out with f16. Don't like the little stick at center left, wonder if I should remove it? I think the choice of back (or is that "top") lighting works here as well.

Fourth: While the composition is a bit boring, the subject itself has terrific detail with imperfections and little black dirt specks. Lighting gives just enough shading to preceive depth. This was at f8 to get as much of the shroom in focus as I could and I had to work moving the camera around the subject to get the background far back.

The second shot is awesome. I love how fractal the fungus is. The color in the last shot is very nice. I like the framing, how it's not centered it gives the color of the mushroom good contrast. And, again the dirt gives the shot great texture. Good work!

Ha I'm from WI too! Never new we had such interesting fungi. Number 4 looks great!
