Wished there were more practical Reviews on lens Filters

I see you have never owned a 300mm f2.8 or 400mm 2.8. The filters go at the mount end in a drop in slot. A 52mm filter won't fit the big end of the lens. They don't even make step rings that go that big.

I wish. Now that i'm starting to photograph birds more and more, i can see how limiting 200mm is.

After this thread. I went home to review my lenses again as they have changed a bit since I first bought filters.
My UWA and 80-200 I don't have the 77mm filters that I need. Thus I'm off to buy a 77mm CPL and a couple 77 NDs for the UWA.

I was thinking maybe the 1.8 because it was so bright this past Sunday when I was taking a photo of a small fountain.

No problem. I shot a soccer game last weekend in the super bright sun and I didn't have the CPL with me ... I was noticing the lack of the correct size anyways. lol

But before you get filters, at least make sure you are satisfied with your current lens setup.
Since I bought mine I added several lenses that took the 77mm size. Different from my 72, 67, and 52mm lenses that I use various filters for.

I dunno... I have some reasonably nice glass but keep Hoya HMC UV(C) filters on pretty much everything. While they may not necessarily be the greatest filters with the least impact on image quality, they have saved me a couple times. I'd like to think that using the filters out here in the desert helps to prevent my front elements from getting sandblasted (car windshields look pretty bad after about 2 years out here). Realistically, though, the times they've saved me are the times I've used them like helmet tear-offs (lens gets seriously gunked for one reason or another and there isn't time to clean it, unscrew the filter, chuck it into the camera bag, and keep shooting).

I do waffle back and forth on whether I should have them on sometimes, though, since they do cause a slight contrast loss.

That is actually the kind of situation I keep a clear filter or two in the bag for. Blowing sand, sea spray, mud, kids eating spaghetti. . . . . . .

Yes, I saw their review of the B+W slimline CPL that I bought (and previous ones) .. which got a #2 in the review.
I use slimline because they are recommended for use on Ultra Wide Angle lenses.

I also have a few Heliopan UV 0 for lens protectors but I'm usually in the "environment" for short periods so I don't bother .. the CPL and NDs are my main usage when I do use them.
