Wooden ship modeling, anyone?

I've bought me a kit, a 1/100 flyer kit, from Towerhobbies along with a tool set. I'll be building it for my gf when she comes back. Anyone else every done something like this? I'll take any tip I can get. I love this kind of work, and hope I'll be able to finish the kit, although I've never done it before.

I can't wait, the results are soooo beautiful! Sailing ships are stunning!!

I tried it once and ended up with a very realistic and beautiful pile of ship pieces covered in glue.
