Worthwhile Tool, or just a bit of fun?

[Bend The Light]

Downloaded PixelBender for CS5 today and have been playing with some of the filters. I wondered if these things actually have artistic merit, or were basically just for fun (which is ok by me, really, just wondered about others' thoughts)?

They look a lot nicer than some of the other 'painting' filters I've seen around, but it can certainly be overdone.

Thanks guys. Just need to settle on a theme, maybe, and not push the envelope too far, and I may get some decent results.
