Have any of you ever been blocked? Kind of like writers block for photographers? I can't seem to get that great shot. I have dug in so deep lately and been so passionate about getting better that I kind of feel like I am crashing. Just frustrated... Any advice?? Or do I sound nuts lol.

Yes you are going nuts, im looking out of my patio and i can see lots that i could shoot, if its wet out i just get my studio lighting out

Take a walk without the camera.

Generally tying to force art out (esp when its for relaxation as opposed to work) only results in poor results and also building frustration (because even if you get great results you'll be super critical and dismissive of them). Best thing is put the camera down and let things slip a little to the back of your mind. A little break to recharge your batteries is no bad thing.

Post some pictures first. Then we can have a discussion about your photos.

DiskoJoe I will post... but I know somethings wrong with the composition... boring almost... and I am having lots of grain issues and I do not know what I am doing wrong there either... I bought a used 50mm 1.4 and it seems my images are softer and noisier instead of sharper

All my opinions follow

Stop shooting at 1.4 when you are trying to get a person in focus which is about 5 inches at that distance.
And the lens isn't that sharp either at 1.4.
Look at the third picture.
Cuddly female, baby wrapped up but all sorts of bright distracting lights around her and space that lets the feelings leak.

crop what you can off so that the picture look reflects the tight-wrapped content.
Darken the rest of the background so it doesn't pull the eye.
darken the baby and lighten her face so they come close to matching in tone.
it comes out as a nice touching image, I think.

You are right traveler... I shoot wide open too much! Sometimes what seems basic knowledge to you, I have no clue. I am very new to photography and need to hear it all. Is there a formula or method to follow when choosing your aperture? I have been so displeased with my images the last few days... I feel like I need to start back at the basics.
