XMP Files?

We started using a photo processing service for our wedding pics. We received our first set of photos today with a lot of XMP files. I understand these XMP files contain the data of adjustments made. I also understand these XMP files need to be in the same folder as the photos and when I import them into Aperture 3, the original pics will be adjusted according to the data in the XMP file, however I don;t see any difference in my photos and I'm assuming I'm not doing something right here. Can anyone help me out with this?

XMP files are data files. That data may be instructions for parametric image adjustments, but it can also just be image metadata that doesn't effect the look of an image.

Few labs have the capability to handle parametric image files.

My wife and I shot the pics. We sent them to a photo processing service and 2 weeks later they sent us several XMP files that we were told to place in the same folder as the original image and then import it into Aperture. We did, but we don't see ANY difference and I wonder if I am doing something wrong.

Probably. Confirm the software versions, and then ask the photographers for exact instructions. After all you paid them for the service, why try and figure this out yourself and ask a bunch of random strangers on the internet

Not sure about Aprtutre because I am a Windows user, but I'd check if after copying the xmp files to your photo directory you don't have to read the settings from files in Aperture. You do in Lightroom. Maybe it's done the same way in Aperture.
