I am wanting to get this for x-mas... I have already researched the camera and those 2 lenses and I am pretty sure that's the one I want that will be useful for me... I just have one question about the XSi

under the specs it says

Shutter 30-1/4000

What I am really curious about is the 30 ... is it 30 seconds or minutes???

I really want to be able to take 30 minute exposure...

If it is 30 seconds is there anything I can do to take longer exposures?

30 second, but there is bulb mode where you can rig a 30-minute exposure.

It is 30 seconds. You can get longer exposures using the B setting. However, keep in mind that very long exposures tend to give very noisy pictures.

Can ya'll explain this "B" setting to me? and what you mean by "rig" the exposure?

Thanks for the quick responses too!

"bulb" or B is where the shutter stays open, as long as you hold the button down. You can "rig" a remote to take the pictures as to not effect the stability of the camera, and keep the shutter open.

ok cool, I have a shutter relase cable from my old Canon AE-1 program... do you think it would work with the XSi ?

You might also do this with successive shorter exposures and then composite them in software.
