I really like the colours and the subject, but I feel the background is too busy and subtracts from the subject of the photo.

You nailed the focus. I would have liked to see a little higher angle to see more of the flower. It looks unusual.

The Lilly is truly stunning. Great color, and makes a wonderful subject. Your exposure is dead on. What really hurts your picture is the exceedingly busy background. A more selective use of DOF would have solved that issue.
