2nd attempt at running my T3i. I am soaking in all the info I can. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. I was using the kit 18-55mm lens. I used DPP to do what little post I know, and PS to downsize the image to fit in the post. I shot it RAW.

why your sky is that color?

Pay attention on kipping things level. Those formations are made by water and water is self leveling, that means that the mineral build up on all those pools is also going to be level.

I don't think keeping things level is necessarily good, crank that camera at a 45 or beyond, sometimes it adds flavor to the overall dish. Is the staircase effect what you're shooting? It resembles one to me but I'm not sure that was your intent. I DO think the pic is great overall.

I'd say back out a little. Get some background in, add some drama. It feels like the subject fills the entire frame and that can be a bit overwhelming. I like that you're thinking this through, though. That's going to be a huge help as you improve.
