I love photo 1- really nice!

Were these shot in RAW? For number 2- I wonder if you can save some of the highlights and make the exposure better than I could with just the jpeg, but I would try something a little like this...

Yes, shot in raw, edited and converted in LR. I generally adjust exposure,shadows, highlights etc. by the histogram not by eyeball. Also my display is only calibrated by some quick fix thing I found on line. Maybe that's why I thought it looked correct but it looks washed out on here. I'll go back and have another shot at it. Thanks for pointing it out and showing your edit.

Nothing like that Jay here, always great to see birds others don't have. Wonderful colours and details, great shots.

Brian, Love that Jay! We don't have them here either. Looks like your siggy is a darn good copy. Seems pretty sharp wide open. The Finch does seem a bit washed out on my end also. Maybe bring the blacks and highlights down a touch?

Steller's Jays are pretty neat birds. My parents always have quite a few in their backyard.

Actually I have a tiny backyard that makes it difficult to not include fences and siding etc . Both these birds were in trees in a neighbours backyard.
