So there is a contest at my work for the best fall picture.

Theme: “What does fall mean to you?” Remember, fall isn’t just about the foliage! Think pumpkins, apples, harvest festivals, football, school busses……..


So this is what I was thinking. I want to go to a small brook/stream and take a picture of it with a small paper boat floating in it. Also include the fall foliage in the background. What do you think?

Any other suggestions?

That sounds like a winner of an idea to me. Another suggestion is instead of a paper boat, get just one brightly colored leaf and float it down the river, and get a close up of it.

The boat sounds better and a lot less cliched. I mean really - you're probably going to have a shatload of "brown/green leaf" pictures on display. Now if you make a boat out of some leaves and sticks, now that would be interesting -

Or isolate some golden fall leaves by arranging them well lit on a black background at home and take some pictures of that pattern. Then it would be pure foilage

I will try different ideas and see which one works best. Since Im a noob maybe you guys can help me in this department too. I want to have a slow exposure so I can get the smooth water effect but I do not want the boat to be blurry because it will be in motion.

Are there any ways of having the smooth water effect without the boat being blurry? I do not have PS so I could not take 2 images and then layering them. Or can someone do it for me if I get the two shots?
