About Sony A500

I've just checked this alpha camera and looks like in same level with canon 500D. Correct me if i'm wrong.

As DSLR camera Canon and Nikon come forward but what about Sony.
Is it good at DSLR class ?

And also i'm a little curious about Canon's kit lenses. Many people think that they are not good , so what about sony's ?

Just want to learn good and bad sides of Sony beside Canon 500D.

Actually i wonder about vibration prevention system. (don't know the right name)

Does it work properly with all lenses ?
or is it not as good as IS on Canon lenses ?

the sony steadyshot is inbody so it works with any lens. the kit lens that comes with the alpha(a230 for me, might not be the same for you) isnt too impressive so definetly would be worth it to upgrade to a better lens and maybe just buy the body.
