Wide angle photos? That's a telephoto lens

With something like that, it might cause a bit of something to show up in the photos...but there's a good chance it wouldn't. It would be more likely to catch light and cause a flare...especially when used outside in direct sunlight without a lens hood.

well by wide angle I meant at the widest setting on the lens.. on the 75mm side. I know that there is a possibility of it catching light, but I probably will purchase a lens hood for this lens and keep at least a UV filter on it.

thanks for the reply big mike..

Don't worry about it, you won't see it.

Unless it's dirt cheap, don't touch it. If you want something that you can use in harsh environments such as beach, rain and so on then it could be a winner but only if it's dirt cheap.

lights bouncing off from bad scratches can really show up in a sunlight wide setting like a beach or a lightning strike

black shoe polish to fill in the scratch. Its an old trick to minimize flare caused by the scratch. Most of the time a minor scratch won't significantly affect the final image.
