First off, newbie here.....amazing site, so thankful I came across it.

Recently decided to go full on into a photography career, and am just curious what the best schools are, or at least some opinions on the best.

The 2 I seem to keep hearing about are the Brooks Institute in California and the New York Institute of Photography.

Really wondering if these are light years ahead of a basic BA from a university in photography (Ive been told that by a few pros I was talking to).

Any thoughts or experience?

I have seen the NYIP and though its dated and they useaudio tapes instead of cds the information is still valid.

Really if you are serious about this you really should go to an actual bricks-and-mortar school. I guess it also depends on your age if you are just starting college age you should definately got to a real school. Another school to consider (depending on where you live now) is RIT.

If you are serious, attend real classes. Online is not anywhere near as good.

Don't try to learn to swim on dry land. ;)

I'm no expert.. i'm just passing information that I've heard

International Center of Photography offers full-time undergraduate and graduate studies in photography. They are located in NYC

Fashion instutute of technology. Also in NYC. Suppose to be a pretty demanding program and can be difficult to gain admittance.

From what I can tell, most colleges offer studies in photography as part of their 4 year fine arts programs. Some local community colleges carry 2 year programs in Photo-technology which is going to get you in the door.

You might also consider another study that leverages photography as a tool... Media and journalism for example. It is very helpful to be able to write as well as create photographs.
