I am looking to purchase a carbon fiber tripod. Weight is a concern for me as I do a lot of hiking with my camera and often carry a load of other gear. I have been looking at the Slik's and Manfrotto's. There is a significant difference in price between the two. The Slik's are running around $250-$300 and the Manfrottos are all $450+.

Does anyone here know if the Slik is an inferior product or are they jkust trying to compete with the brand name product?

One thing I noticed is that the Slik does not have a leveler built into the leg assembly but the Manfrotto does. I know this is not the reason for the price but it is a feature I would like to have and it seems that most heads do not have a leveler built in (I saw some Gitzo heads with a leveler but they are pricey).

Any help for this new amateur photographer is greatly appreciated.

Don't have any direct input but many on various forums have had good things to say about this alternative carbon tripod manufacturer:
