Me and a school friend on mine headed up to Dunnottar Castle near Stonehaven to try and capture a few shots of a sunrise as the weather was pretty good (i.e not raining). We arrive at 6:45 and once we pitched up at our desired spot, we set-up and waited. Sunrise came and the sun was stuck behind what felt like the biggest cloud in the world, but thankfully by 9am the castle was bathed in golden light yumminess.

Taken with a Nikon D7100 + 18-55mm kit lens.

1. This was sunrise, but the sun was behind a cloud.

So does anyone like the idea of shooting the sunlight on the castle rather getting the castle with the sunrise behind it?

Nice! I especially enjoyed the second one.

Thanks, the first image was just put in for comparison, so people could see the difference that cloud moving made lol.

Nice. I like the first one, the darker shade gives it a more mysterious look.

Much better with the light (on so to say). Much better for the surrounding cliffs.
Yeah I really like the contrast between the light and the dark recesses of the cliff
