this was taken with my new nikon D80, macro. ideas/suggestions??

A little dark, maybe because the ligting was poor or your aperture setting was set high? With digital photography you can see your immediate results. Try bracketing a stop up and a stop down from your initial setting and see how that works for you. Use a tripod if your shutter speed gets too slow. Best of luck!
