well my 1st time was a fail... looks like i posted in about 4 min to late and I didn't even manage to get all 5 shots

it takes a lot more time than I thought to PP (even minor), upload, and get the email together haha...

but that was fun, got to put my new 60d though some paces and I think I learned a few things about work flow for next time

Yeah the first time is always the toughest. There's a bit of a grace period as far as time is concerned, so don't worry about the 4 minutes, and you don't need all 5 shots either, but it just means you won't get as many votes.

I generally try to have all my shots taken in about 35-40 minutes, leaving 15-20 for processing and 5 for uploading and sending the email. One thing that helped me out a bunch is making sure that I'm not uploading the files at full resolution - uploads go much faster that way.

What I do is try to have as much done as possible before I start. Have the camera ready with full batteries, empty memory card and my most used lens mounted. I have my editing software open and a new file folder created for the current week round. I have my photo hosting site open and on the upload page so that I'm all set to go. Then when I finally fire off the first email to get the topics, I do something completely opposite of time saving that seems to work for me. I smoke a cigarette and take a look at the topics and just think about them before I even get up, generally for about five minutes. Things just work out more smoothly that way.

I have a similar process to Orion and bent, minus the cigarette, and I usually I walk around the house or outside while thinking about the categories.
