Did you install the software that goes with the scanner in your computer? ...

Even with the right software, you can't scan film (neg or transparency) on a flatbed scanner that doesn't have illumination in the lid that can be used to shine through the film. The vast majority of "cheap" flatbeds lack this.

Maybe you're right. Mine has. It also has a negative slide container in the middle.
