Anyone do any freelance for local newspapers? I think it would be a cool thing to see your photos published. I just don't know how to go about doing it. Should you just send the editor an email?

Send an editor an e-mail with a link to your on-line portfolio. With today's cutbacks in staff, many smaller newspapers rely on freelancers and stringers more than ever before. Ask the editor to give you an assignment of the type you want to shoot for them--sports, news, photo illustration, whatever it is that you want to do.

Many smaller newspapers are only paying for sports photos, since reporters and editors feel that they themselves can handle daily assignment photos like grip n grins and city council meetings and ribbon cuttings.
