Help! Using continuous light source with flash..

Hey guys,

I tried using a continuos light source with flash but got nothing out of it except a bulb with no light radiating from it.

If anyone can give me some advice on this I would really appreciate it!

I am using a Canon Rebel XT and do not have a handheld flash meter.

They are mutually exclusive and opposites really. How can a continuous light source be a flash? Either it flashes or it's continuous. Even in a studio the modelling lights are only for the purpose of previewing and the flash is what does the exposure.

In other words, what the heck are you talking about?
