It's hard to offer advice when you don't post full image stats. Maybe you have a high ISO because you have a fully stopped down aperture and a fast shutter.

It definitely looks like an ISO problem. Can you set your ISO manually while in sports mode? And also, where is Sangerville?
 
It's not a problem.

As the second post mentioned. The camera is working perfectly.

It is in the fully automatic "Sports" mode which means it will choose aperture and ISO values to ensure a minimum of 1/500 of a second in shutter speed to stop sports motion, and an aperture with plenty of DOF (f/5.6) at a focal length of 300 mm.

Are those the settings I would use to capture the same scene? No.

But I can see the scene, but the camera can't.

The subject scale in the image is way to small. Without being told there was a bird, and it being virtually dead center in the image, most people wouldn't see it.
