Thanks to everyone for their responses.
I think as of right now, my question to myself is, "Am I willing to take on the challenges of being an artist?"
I foresee many Cup O' Noodles
As far as the discussion on artist and photographers go.
First, I have always considered myself an artist, as a photographer. Just because we don't use charcoal or paint, does not mean that we shouldn't be considered ARTIST. No one has ever claimed to me that photography isn't an art, but they seem hesitant to put us in the category. I think that is a sore spot with me; in high school many of the studio art teachers pushed photo in the background, and it seemed they almost looked down upon it. *cough. Anyways.
I think having a background in studio art has certainly helped me as a photographer. And vice versa. I am not above average when it comes to drawing, painting, etc.
Composition though, has always come to me second nature. That is what transcends to every form of art.
So to sum this up. I don't think photographers need to be able to draw an amazing self portrait. I think they need to understand the concept of art.
Thanks again to everyone who shared!
All of your imput is greatly appreciated
