lens suggestion

hello!! i'm new to this. i'm planning to buy nikon d40 but i don't know what type of lens i should use. can anyone help me on this?

If you need a lens that will autofocus on the D40, you need to buy an AF-S Nikon lens or a HSM sigma lens. In those categories, the lens you need will depend on what you want to shoot and on your budget.

my budget is about $500 for the lens. i usually take a picture of cityscapes, skyline and i like to shoot at night. also interested in makro/close-up.

You'll want something like the 18-55 AF-S.

That or a 18-70 AF_S. you can pick up one of these used for about half of your budget and still have enough for an Sb-600 and a set of extension tubes for macro work.

Be sure to get a nice tripod and ball head for night shooting and macros. You'll thank me if you hadn't planned on it already.
