I agree with you 100%! The shadows are distracting and I don't like them at all! How could I have avoided the shadows?

You would have needed to use multiple lights (or take the glass outside in better light). If you think about it, you can actually see the shadows with your eye - if you see them, you will photograph them.

Oh, and that damn beer is flat mate. What kinda person drinks flat beer????

Would a fill in flash have eliminated the shadows or caused more problems than it fixed with reflection and the like?

you would probably need soft, even light from the left and right and top..maybe a macro flash adapter.

Using a light tent, light ring, or shooting it on a light table would get rid of shadows in a case like this.
